ASTRO CAT and MOONMOUSE'S SOUTH CAROLINA TRIP
Hello again! Over this past weekend, I got to travel to the state of South Carolina, and like with New York City earlier in the year, Astro Cat and Moonmouse tagged right along with me. Also, like that blog post; I'd like to start with a complementary drawing to celebrate our visit to the Palmetto state.
Unlike New York City, where we went by train; we went to South Carolina by car, which was about a fourteen hour drive. On the way down we got rerouted in Maryland which took us through a different part of Virginia and North Carolina than we had planned. While in Virginia we saw some kind of shot tower that was used to make bullets or something similar back in the 1800s. (You can read all about the specific one we saw right here.) I got a couple pictures of some old buildings outside a gas station near the Virginia - North Carolina line, I ponder what these were...
Once we were back on the road we passed through North Carolina; passing through the town of Mount Airy; notable for being the hometown of one Andy Griffith (star of the namesake Andy Griffith Show, which was one of my dad's favorite TV programs) and the city of Charlotte. Eventually we ended up in South Carolina, we stopped at a rest stop in Fort Mill; it was very nice, very modern; and about three hours later we ended up at my aunt's; and I noticed her cute little garden outside.
The next day, we begun with some shopping. We went to the Northwoods Mall in North Charleston, it wasn't a particularly vacant mall, but it was somewhat quiet compared to what I will talk about later on this blog. I spent most of the time looking for a shirt because I made the dumb mistake of not packing enough; it took me quite a while to find one in my size. However I noticed they had a Spencer's; and not only did they have a Spencer's; this Spencer's had a bulletin board, having some index cards on me, I took advantage of an opportunity. (if you're here from these being posted there; hello and welcome i hope you like the comic! :D)
The next place we stopped was at this Southern supermarket chain called Publix; which I had been in before, not this particular one (there must've been a boost of business near where my aunt lives in the past seven years because a lot of the stuff along that highway wasn't here the last time I was down here back then) but I like Publix, they have very nice chocolate chip cookies in the bakery that I quite like. Also since my aunt's birthday is soon, we got her a nice cake from there; I didn't eat any for reasons you will also see later, but I got a picture of it.

Moonmouse really REALLY wants that cake, I think... |
Afterward, my mom and sister (who I went with on this trip) alongside my aunt went to the beach, I'm not a beach person (I especially don't like sand) so I stayed home and watched cartoons. I took my FireStick with me so I could have access to that MeTV Toons channel that I've been watching a lot of and have fallen in love with; if you're familiar with what Boomerang started out as (or Teletoon Retro for our lovely neighbors to the north), MeTV Toons is that same concept.
The next day, myself and my mother ventured to where my grandmother lived for the last 18 years of her life; a little town called Bonneau Beach.
What I especially wanted to see was Lake Moultrie; the third-largest in the state, and quite a nice place to get some photos; if I say so myself; it was pleasantly quiet on a Sunday morning which was nice.
We also saw some nice greenery where we were, and a nice little designated marker for the area where we were at.
Afterwards, we went on another shopping trip; this time to Summerville. Our first stop was Target; and boy oh boy it sure was BUSY!!! The mall was practically crickets compared to the hustle and bustle in there. However I saw some celebrities on one of the records they were selling.
Afterward we headed to this other store called World Market, that I've never heard of before. Apparently they sell goods from other countries around the world, and it was a rather spacious store that was quite nice if I say so myself. They had this pizza oven shaped like a fish that I especially liked.
After a little while; we made another outing; this time to Mount Pleasant, our destination was a little milkshake shop, they also have a location in Myrtle Beach that my sister had gone to before, which is how we were familiar with them. Upon entry I was greeted to a little arcade area that I quite liked (I didn't play any of the games though); and I quite liked the milkshake I had, even though it was quite rich. (So rich in fact that I didn't really eat much else the rest of the day.) We even got to keep the jars they put the shakes in, which I thought was quite a cool little souvenir.
And on the way back home, we went over the Ravenel Bridge; which I thought was the coolest out of the three we went on during the trip; you can actually see the Port of Charleston from it.
That about concludes the trip; the day after we went home in a mostly uneventful 14-hour drive. I'm sure glad all the driving is done because it was an all day affair! I had a lot of fun on the trip; there was definitely a lot to see and do and I'd love to go back one day.
